Does anyone have any good methods or ideas for miking up the dayan(tabla) from the inside? I've considered this with a friend and we came to the conclusion that the act of making a hole in the shell could change the sound substantially unless it is really well sealed again. How to mount the sensor itself? What sensor to use? Where should it go? I'm sure this has been done before and I wondered if anyone would be up for sharing their insights on this?

this is not unheard of, i had a teacher that did it for the bayan but it is not possible for the dayan. not sure what he used - i can ask him it will take while as i have lost touch. all i remember is that the he put the output plug where he made a hole for the bayan. since that socket was metal he was able to solder the holes. it sort of works like a guitar pick up without the attahced volume and bass control.
